Telus Adds 2 GPS Services
Telus just announced the availability of 2 GPS services, the Navigator and Kid Find. Both services have been released and can be added to existing Telus customers accounts through http://www.mytelusmobility.com/.
Navigator:
The Navigator allows your mobile to act as a GPS device. The mobile based program provides interactions in real-time audio and turn-by-turn directions. 1.5 million points and places of interest are incorporated into the program. Points of interest including restaurants and gas stations as well as the maps will be frequently updated. As in most GPS devices, if a wrong turn is taken, the mobile will automatically recalculate and provide new directions to get you back on track.
To date, there is no mention as of which maps are currently available. Since Telus is limited to North America through its CDMA technology, I’m assuming maps will be for Canada and the USA.
I am curious to know how well this service works. How fast is the map updated if a wrong turn is taken? Please post feedback or comments if anyone has tried this device.
For now, the Navigator application is only available for the SAMSUNG A950. Customers can try out the service on a 2 day trial, after which subscription to the service is 10$ CAD/month +0.50$ download fee (one time fee).
Kid Find:
Kid Find is also a GPS locator function. It is designed to track your kids, a little “À la CSI”. For the over protective parent, this application will allow you to track your kids every move!
For security and users privacy reasons, only clients responsible for payment will be granted permission to control the account. Parents will be able to track their child with the use of an interactive map, allowing them to zoom in and out to pinpoint their exact location with the assistance of a red blinking light.
Kid Find subscription fee is 5.00$ CAD/month + 0.50$ download fee (one time). A free 5 lookup trial is available for download also.
